Cynthia Rowley insired BIRCHBOX

When I received my monthly package from Birchbox I knew it was going to be special by the way it was wrapped in such a beautiful cover! So you can imagine how happy I was when I opened it up and found the following items:

Purity Made Simple One-Step Facial Cleanser 8 oz/$20 and 16 oz/$32. This perennial award-winner is pH-balanced to gently clear away dirt, oil, and makeup without drying out the skin.

Huile Prodigieuse Multi-usage Dry Oil 50ml/$29.50 and 100ml/$44.50
A makeup artist favorite. This multi-use oil gives face and body a pretty glow (minus any slickness), and it works to smooth flyaways, too. (I have used this on my face and body and it's smells so good and works wonders I promise)

Redken Shine Flash 02 4.4 oz/$17
A must for runway shows, this weightless spray gives hair a brilliant finish. (Your hair doesn't feel weighed down at all when you use this and it isn't oily either)

Zoya Touch Collection Nail Polish in Pandora 0.5 fl oz/$8. Neutral gets a sexy makeover in this creamy, slightly metallic nude. The perfect accessory to summer's bright fashions. (this color is so perfect for the just there pink tone)

Almond and Apricot Kind bar (no price??)
Snack right with this wholesome bar- no preservatives or hard-to-pronounce ingredients. (loved this bar FYI, it tasted yummy!)

All of these items are Cynthia Rowley's favs. I'm super stoked about what I received (as always).

M.O.M Great stuff!!!

In my adventure to find the best home remedies I came across a lot of blogs and posts about Milk of Magnesia. I have struggled daily with oily skin so my ears perked up when I heard you could use m.o.m on your face to rid oily skin (and it can be used for other things)! I ran out and bought some that night (along with other drug store products that I'm testing now..I will post after I review them myself (but you should have seen what I had in my little basket lol). I am insanely impressed with this miracle liquid. If you can get past purchasing it (which I didn't find it to be a big deal) you will fix your oily skin problems in no time. Here are a couple different ways I do it about 2 or 3 times a week:

1.In the evenings I put some m.o.m on a cotton ball and spread it on my freshly cleaned face and leave it on until the morning. I clean it off and then continue with my morning routine. (this will make your laundry basket grow as I change my pillow sheet about every other night to keep it clean)

2. I put it on about 15 minutes before my makeup routine and then rinse it off with water before I start my moisturize, primer, whatever. (this would be if I didn't do it the night before or if I don't need to put it on as long)

I don't have oily skin like I use to!!! It really is amazing! Now some claim that it's a good primer but I like e.l.f's primer for an inexpensive choice or Smashbox primer for a high end choice. Plus it makes your face sort of white so I don't know that I'd like to have that on my face all day, especially in the summer when your trying to get a bronzed look. ;)

I hear it's also great for acne. You would just dab a little bit of m.o.m on your blemish and leave it on overnight and in the morning rinse off.

This can be drying so be careful on how much you use it. You will figure out a good schedule for what your skin needs. Just start with once a week and if that doesn't help, try twice a week and so on.

**Also very important*** Make sure to test this and anything else I blog about to make sure it's safe for your skin. Just because something works for me, doesn't mean that it will work for you! Swab a little bit on the back of your wrist or a small amount on the side of your face to see if you have a reaction to it before you apply it all over your face.

I hope you find this to be as great as I have! if you tried it, let me know what you thought.

e.l.f. Studio High Definition Powder

I am in love with this stuff!!!!! When you put it on you get like an airbrushed look. I did notice if you put too much on you get a white film so less is more with this. ELF is really coming up with their products. I ordered quite a bit of stuff from them recently so that I could check it out and what not and although there were some things I wouldn't waste my money on again, there were others that I would totally invest in, and at such low cost, you would be silly not to try this stuff out! Stay tuned for more reviews on the ELF products that I purchased. I'm itching to tell you guys about the awesome stuff that I bought!

I give this product a 4 out of 5. It does what it says and gives you such a great finish. The packaging is solid and you get a lot of product for such a low cost. I believe I only paid $3.00 because I bought it when they had a 50% off sale (which they have sales all the time so sign up for their emails!) The only reason I didn't say 5 out of 5 is because if you use too much you get a white film so blending out is key! Click here to go to Elf's website and see this product and others.

And remember, stayed tuned because I will be reviewing other stuff I bought from there.

Bridgette's wedding pictures!

I finally have some of the pictures from a wedding I did on June 4th. I'm hoping to get a few more up close ones but these are none the less stunning! I added some extra ones just because I couldn't resist. The photographer did an amazing job at capturing every special moment. I feel like I didn't miss the wedding at all after seeing these great pictures. Check out the photographer's website by clicking here. Josephiney Photography did an awesome job for sure!

Bridgette's wedding party was a delight to work with. I ended up doing 5 of the bridesmaids and of course Bridgette. Each girl wanted something different so that was fun to create. Bridgette isn't a "makeup girl" (probably because she is beautiful without it!) so I kept the look very light and natural. It was perfect for what she wanted and the look she was going for.

Here are some of the pictures that the photographer was so kind to let me snag from her. :) I'm hoping to get more from Bridgette soon (hint hint Bridgette lol)

Even through her beautiful tears, her makeup never smudged!

Beautiful!!! Be sure and check out http://www.josephineyphotography.com/ for more of the pictures!

FINALLY A MAC DUPE THAT'S WORTH LOOKING AT!!!

I am so stoked to share this treasure with you guys!! I have been looking high and low for dupes because let's face it, not everyone (including myself) can afford $30 eyeshadow pans. So I've been digging into every beauty blog I could find and I would check out the comparisons at the mall between what they would say was a good dupe for MAC shadows or any other expensive beauty product to the dupe they had listed. I've done my research on this one people! I would take my lil list of dupes and swipe my heart out on expensive shadows, etc and then head to Ulta or Sephora and swipe the dupe (if it was available) and this list I have included is by far the closest I've come to almost exact dupes. I've also included the link to the blogger's website so you could check out what other people are adding because it's quite amazing! I don't know about you guys but I'm so excited about this! Finally we can get some good dupes! Now I will say this, MAC by far has great pigmented, long lasting, products so there can never be a replacement to MAC but you can always substitute until you are in the position to buy the more expensive brands. I think people "pick" on MAC so much because they are so great! Also, and I can't stress this enough, a good canvas will make for a great picture so make sure your cleansing regimen and primer application is never skimped on! You can use less expensive products as long as you take care of your skin and apply primer!!! It's isn't a waste of money I promise. Great primers are Smashbox primer and Urban Decay Primer Potion. You can't go wrong with these. OK enough of my jabbering! Here is the list! ENJOY!!

MAC Dupe Forum

Dupe: In the makeup world, a duplicate product. An item similar to another item from a different brand; a substitute product. Often a dupe is referred to as an inexpensive alternative to a high end item.

I'd like to devote this blog post completely to MAC dupes. Thanks to my email buddy Maria for giving me the idea. I'm going to create a link on the side of my blog so this post will always be easily accessible.
**************************
Here's how it will work- If you know of some affordable duplicates to ANY MAC products- eyeshadow, blush, foundation, lipgloss... anything... leave a comment and tell me what they are. Then I'll post them right here to this page so they'll be organized for everyone to see. (I'll be updating as often as I can.) If you don't have a Blogger account and would rather send me an email, you can do that too: beautybroadcast@hotmail.com

If the "dupe" product does not have a name-- for example if your dupe is part of a palette-- please provide a description. EXAMPLE: "the light shade in the L'oreal HIP duo in Sculpted"-- or-- "the deep brown shade in the Cover Girl Country Woods quad." Also-- I WILL post multiple dupe products for one MAC item- if you have a different suggestion from the one posted- that's ok!

Summer Beach Makeup (for those that wear it)

I realize a lot of people don't wear makeup to the beach so this could be perfect for someone who wants the light look without packing on the makeup for like a date or a day out in the sun, not necessarily in the water :) I LOVE Kandee Johnson and I stalk her YouTube videos almost daily to see what she is coming out with next and I came across this one and thought it would be perfect to try for a summer day look. It's so pretty! So enjoy this video by the amazing Kandee Johnson!

10 uh-oh no-no's!!

We've all made these mistakes at some point BUT this topic wouldn’t be especially useful without learning how to avoid these major makeup mistakes again! Here’s a rundown of the mistakes and how to overcome them.

Disney Rainbow face

  • If you want to wear bright makeup then go for it,  BUT pick 1 feature- eyes, cheeks, OR lips- not all of the above.
  • If you love blue eyeshadow, then wear it in moderation- you can apply on the outer part of the eye or smudge along the lashline, but not all over the eyes.  If you must wear the blue eyeshadow all over the lids, then put a neutral color in the crease to tone it down.
  • Choosing a dark blue vs a bright blue also works- it isn’t as overpowering but still has that blue color you are aiming for!
Overbronzer

  • Rule #1:  For all that is holy, DON’T APPLY BRONZER ALL OVER YOUR FACE.   Just because you want to look tan, doesn’t mean bronzer all over will make you look like a golden goddess….
  • Apply a darker bronzer just under the cheek bones and a bit on the forehead, or if it’s a lighter colored bronzer, you can apply on top of the cheekbones and down the nose.
  • Make sure your bronzer is just 2 shades darker than your skin- any darker than that, and it starts looking orange and fake.  My favorite bronzer is NARS Laguna Bronzer

Sticky Lips

  • The trick to avoiding sticky lips, is to find the correct lip gloss.  My favorite non sticky ones are MAC lipglasses and NARS lipglosses.
  • Don’t apply too much lip gloss.  If it starts dripping down your lips, you know it’s time to back away from the lip gloss tube….

Lipstick Teeth

  • After you apply your lipstick, stick a finger in your mouth, close your lips around it and pull your finger out.  It will take off the lipstick on the inner part of the lips that rubs off on your teeth.

Clown Blush

  • Apply blush a little bit at a time- you can always add more, but it’s very hard to take away.
  • Choose a blush that is 1-2 shades darker/brighter than your skin.  So, if you have medium color skin, go for a medium pink or a medium coral color- if it’s a bright pink, you’ll have the clown look. If it’s a pale pink, it won’t show up much.

Cakey Face

  • This comes down to one thing:  DON’T APPLY TOO MUCH POWDER.  Powder is a wonderful product- it gives a matte look to the face and makes your foundation last longer, but it can also be your worst nightmare since it’s easy to apply too much and get a “cakey” looking complexion.  Apply powder only where you feel you need it- generally on the T zone (nose, chin, and middle of forehead).  If your skin is dry, you may not need powder at all.
  • To apply a thin layer of powder, I prefer using flat powder puffs instead of brushes as you can control how much powder you pick up. Pat the powder on instead of swiping, and it will apply a thin layer without messing up your foundation underneath.

Spider Lashes

  • Throw away your mascara that is more than 3 months old.  If it’s older than that, it can grow bacteria and start to get clumpy.
  • If you want to apply 2 coats of mascara, do it quickly as once it dries, it’s easy for it to clump on your lashes.
  • When you pull the mascara wand out of the tube, scrape the excess off the end of the tube so you don’t apply too much mascara at once.
  • Finally if you still have clogged lashes brush them through with an old tooth brush.

Overdrawn Eyebrows

  • If your eyebrows are very light or super thin, you can still fill in with an eyebrow pencil, BUT use sparingly and apply in short strokes just where the “bald” spots are.  For the rest of your brows, use a matte eyeshadow or brow powder with a small angled brush- it looks less harsh and more natural.
  • If your hair color is light, you want your brows to be 2 shades darker than your hair color.  If your hair is dark, your brows should be 1-2 shades lighter.

Pasty Face

  • This usually is the result of too light a foundation… It can be very hard to notice until you walk outside in natural light or see pictures of yourself and see the clear difference in color between your face and your body colour Do your best to do your makeup in natural light or a well-lit room so you can see exactly if your foundation matches your body.
  • Mix your foundations.  I keep at least 2 colors on hand to mix on those days that I may have gotten a slight tan- I keep one in my lightest skin color (what my skin looks like in the winter months), and one 2-3 shades darker than that.  I can then custom mix and get the perfect color by adding more dark or lighter foundation.
Over-tweezing (or ignoring) your eyebrows.

  • The brows are such a central and important feature on your face. When they’re well groomed they can enhance your eyes and your entire look.
  • If yours are out of control, it’s worth the time and money to let a professional take tweezers to them. Get a referral from a friend in order to find someone you know will do a good job. The worst thing you—or a pro—can do is to take off too many brow hairs.
  • As we get older, the brows naturally become more sparse, so if you tweeze your brows too thin, they might never fully grow back. If you follow your brows’ natural arch—but clean up the areas over, under and between brows—you’ll find the best shape. Visit a pro for a tune-up every few months and you should be able to keep them groomed on your own in between.
And one more thing....Don't overdo the shimmer! You can go from dewy and pretty to disco grease ball in no time if you overdo it! Keep it light, use a fan brush to blend highlight powder or cream on certain areas of your face, NOT ALL OVER! See pictures below on where to apply highlight and contour. I see so many people make this mistake of thinking because it's summer that the shimmer should be in overload...save others from the blinding glare and ease up on that! :)

I hope you all enjoy this as much as I did!!
